Cornerstones officially opens new residence, The Shaw House in Biddeford, Maine
November 01, 2022
We are incredibly excited to announce that we have officially moved into our new residence, The Shaw House, in Biddeford, Maine.Biddeford, which borders the town of Kennebunkport and has become a thriving new destination for young adults to live and pursue their lives. Biddeford has become Maine’s youngest city, with a mean age of 29. Food and Wine Magazine just named the city of Biddeford as, “one of four American “small cities with big food scenes”. The University of New England, which has been one of our most sought after and relied upon for educational resources for our residents, is also located in Biddeford. In addition, Biddeford boasts miles of coastline, beaches, and natural areas. For these and a myriad of other reasons, it was a very obvious choice for Cornerstones of Maine to pursue Biddeford as one of our locations.
The Shaw House is named after Charles Shaw, a businessman, inventor, and patron of the arts. He and his family settled in Biddeford and built the Shaw House at the turn of the century. Over the years it has undergone numerous renovations and expansions and currently boasts 12,000 square feet of living space and 26 rooms. The property is just under four acres and includes a cottage house, large garage, and extensive parking. Due to the proximity to downtown Biddeford, our residents will have easier access to transportation, community activities, volunteering, and vocational opportunities.
We are sad to say goodbye to Kennebunkport, but looking forward to continuing our clinically driven transitional living program at our new location. We also welcome the opportunity to serve more residents with the addition of rooms at The Shaw House.
