Touchstone:

Young Adult Supportive Living in Portland, Maine

The Final Step to Young Adult Independence

Sometimes the hardest part of growing up isn't starting the journey; it's finishing strong. Our Touchstone program helps young adults take that last crucial step. Based in downtown Portland, this aftercare program bridges the gap between our transitional living community and fully independent adulthood through a supported step-down process.

Step Down with Freedom & Support

Step Down with Freedom & Support

Touchstone was created to provide clients with more freedom during the last three months of their Cornerstones journey. By now, clients have overcome challenges, built new confidence, and learned new skills. This period gives our treatment team and clients a chance to observe how they handle increased independence and less day-to-day support.

Our downtown Portland locations put clients in the heart of the city, giving them direct access to employment, education, transportation, and community resources – all essential parts of building an independent life.

When patterns or challenges emerge—as they often do during times of change—clients don’t have to face them alone. Our team provides targeted coaching to help clients recognize areas where they might need continued growth. This approach helps young adults better understand themselves, their skills, and their challenges as they prepare for long-term success after leaving our program.

Independent Living With Resources

Unlike our residential and transitional living options, Touchstone doesn't have 24/7 staffing. Instead, life skills coaches are present during daytime hours, with supervisors and clinicians available on-call after hours. This setup creates a more realistic environment, where young adults can practice independent living with a safety net.

Who's a Fit for Touchstone?

Who's a Fit for Touchstone?

Moving to Touchstone isn't automatic. Clients are recommended for this level of care by their Primary Therapist and Life Skills Coach based on the responsibility and accountability they've shown earlier in the Cornerstones of Maine program.

Young adults who do well in Touchstone have typically demonstrated a strong commitment to their personal goals. They've actively engaged in professional development or academics and have shown they're ready for increased independence.

Throughout the Touchstone phase, our team works closely with each young adult to develop a concrete, collaborative plan for full independence—whether that means returning to their home community or establishing permanent residence in Maine.
