The Way Life Should Be…

Maine’s state slogan is “The Way Life Should Be”, and although we might be biased, we have to agree. Maine offers countless opportunities and activities for our young adult clients. We have locations in two young and diverse cities that offer many social opportunities and community-based support. U.S. News & World Report just rated Portland the 7th best city to live in 2023, and Biddeford is the youngest city per capita in Maine. Our young adult clients are encouraged to explore Portland and Biddeford and to build connections in the community. Both cities are inclusive and welcoming to all! 

Cornerstones organizes and executes group programmatic activities including hikes on local trails and mountains, beach trips, ski trips, trivia nights, concerts, and visits to local museums as well as day trips to Boston and Portsmouth. A few of these trips might be mandatory, though most are optional. Either way, clients will have numerous enrichment opportunities to choose from. Both Portland and Biddeford have robust public transportation systems that allow for nearly unlimited access to social, academic, and vocational opportunities in their community.

Below are a few state parks, preserves, and trailheads easily accessible from both Portland and Biddeford.

Portland Trails is an amazing resource many locals use to assess difficulty and accessibility for everything from walking, running, foraging, biking, birding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and more!  

Southern Maine is famous for its array of beautiful beaches and both Portland and Biddeford are coastal cities within a stone’s throw away from many. For surfers, beachcombers, tidepoolers, and sunbathers alike, there are a plethora of options for everyone! Some ocean-centric activities our clients have taken part in include sea kayaking, paddleboarding, lobster boating, deep sea fishing, tidepooling, and more!

Every winter, Cornerstones clients have the opportunity to go on ski trips.

Portland and Biddeford are both creative and eclectic cities home to artisans and thriving small local businesses. Many of the creatives that call Biddeford and Portland home also offer community events and learning opportunities. Some activities our clients have taken part in include painting, music lessons, ceramics, creative writing, woodworking, sewing, and more!

All of our locations are within walking distance of the downtown hub each house is located in. While Maine is mostly known for it’s outdoor recreation, seafood, and idyllic coastal landscape, both Portland and Biddeford have an urban influence and air to them. Mainer’s dedicated to their niche passions and crafts have created elevated shopping and dining experiences in both cities. Bostonians and New Yorkers have also gravitiated to these areas to stay connected to bustling city life, but at a smaller and slower pace. Portland is the largest metropolitan city in Maine, while Biddeford is the largest metropolitan city in York County. Some “city” activities our clients take part in include art walks, concerts, shopping, trivia, movie nights in the park, and more!
